Three Guys and a Podcast: Apple News & Analysis
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Apple will be holding a special event on October 22. All the rumors say Apple will update their iPad and iPad Mini products during this event. While these are still just rumors, it is likely to be true. Will Apple just update iPads at this event?
Updating both the iPad and iPad Mini is not enough for an Apple Special Event. The last Special Event had the iPhone 5s, 5c, and iOS7. While we knew about many of the features in iOS 7, Apple still took the time to show off the new features. The iPad and iPad Mini can work great as the key event update, but they still need more.
Apple could release a new Mac product at this event. The MacBook Pro Retina, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and Mac OS 10.9 all should see updates this year. None of these products go with iPads in an event. Apple also has enough Mac products to warrant an event on just the Mac alone. So, Apple should have a separate Mac Special Event coming in a few weeks to a month after the iPad event. What else could Apple Release?
For Apple to have an iPad special event, they still need an additional product to compliment the iPad updates to make a complete event. New software would work well. Updating the iWork or iLife suite of applications would go great with the new iPads to show off the capabilities of both. An Apple TV or Apple HDTV could also be in the lineup. An Apple TV update would work well with the iPad, but a new product like an HDTV would likely have its own event. The iWork suite has not been updated in years and needs a big update as business users are losing faith in Apple’s iWork.
Apple needs one more product to release in October to complete its iPad special event. This product needs to be related to the iPads, so Apple can show both of them off together. The two best options would be an Apple TV update or updates to their iPad software products. iWork is the best choice for the third product update.
