Three Guys and a Podcast: Apple News & Analysis
Steve Jobs once emailed me stating "Don't believe everything you read about inventory levels..." Equally so, don't believe everything you read about iPad mini retina display shortages.
A recent rumor from Reuters Clare Jim and Reiji Murai claim Apple will be unable to roll out an iPad mini with retina display with a decent supply this year, possibly causing a delay into 2014.
When it comes to rumors like this, we have an easy rule to follow here at T-GAAP: If it looks like Digitimes, sounds like Digitimes, and acts like Digitimes, it might as well be Digitimes.
Reuters claim comes from sources within Apple's supply chain. This supply chain nonsense is about as unreliable as it gets. Clearly, Reuters is getting huge hits with such an article, but the odds of it having any basis in reality regarding Apple? On a scale of 1-10 we give it a big zero.
If Steve Jobs taught me anything, it was to take information like this and quickly trash. It could actually be Apple playing games, it could be someone at Reuters trying to make a name for themselves, it could be some kid in China that was given a USD $20 bill to make something up, or it could be true. As for us T-GAAP-ers, we'll stick with Steve Jobs assessment then – and now.
