Three Guys and a Podcast: Apple News & Analysis
Apple had their special product event this week at the Yerba Buena Center. The tag line for this event was “We still have a lot of cover” and they were right. It was a big event with multiple hardware and software updates, like new iPads, MacBooks, Operating System, and software updates. Some of the updates didn’t even make it to the show like Aperture 3.5.
With all these new product updates, one has to wonder what was the best product Apple updated at the Event? It would be the product with the biggest improvement and with the biggest impact on the consumer. Here is The Best of Show:
Best of Show: iPad mini
When the iPad mini first came out, it was the smaller, slower, cheaper sibling to the mighty iPad. Now the iPad mini is equal in both strength and speed to the new iPad Air. Both have the same processor, memory, communications hardware, and screen resolution. The only difference between the iPad Air and iPad mini is screen size. With its smaller and lighter package, the iPad mini is the clear winner.
Best of Show Runner Up: Mac Pro
After years of ignoring the Mac Pro, Apple finally created the biggest upgrade to the Pro since it first came out. This is a huge improvement with all the latest technology. Apple basically removed all the old technology, like hard drives and optical drive and loaded this thing up with fast solid state storage and memory. Since the old technology is gone, Apple could put the Mac Pro into a much smaller and sleeker package. The only expansion that is now possible is through USB3 and thunderbolt 2 connectors. For the Mac user looking for power, this is the new flag ship.
Apple hit the ball out of the park with this event. While there are many great products launched, there can be only one Best Of Show. The iPad mini beats out the iPad Air, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pros as the best product with the most impact. The Mac Pro may have been the biggest upgrade, but the consumer base is much smaller than the iPad mini. Apple will not be able to make the new iPad minis fast enough.
